Getting updates from developer's site (Direct)

Post by Anselm » Fri Mar 23, 2018 9:35 am

Hello,

I come from Secunia/Flexera PSI which shows 175 programs, including 1 insecure and 4 ignored.

SUMo shows 202 products, requesting 58 minor and 25 major updates. I bought the Pro license to be able to "Get updates from developer's site (Direct)". But this seems to be possible only with only a few products. Some examples:

Acrobat Distiller
Direct: https://www.adobe.com/de/#
SUMo page: https://www.adobe.com/de/#

Adobe AIR
Direct: https://get.adobe.com/de/air/ (ok)
SUmo Page: https://get.adobe.com/de/air/ (ok)

Amazon Music
Direct: https://www.amazon.com/
SUmo Page: https://www.amazon.com/

Bat To Exe Converter (84 bits)
Direct: http://www.f2ko.de/en/
SUmo Page: http://www.f2ko.de/en/

Canon My Printer (64 bits)
Direct: http://global.canon/en/index.html
SUmo Page: http://global.canon/en/index.html

Canon User Registralion
Direct: http://global.canon/en/ad/cmsc/index.html
SUmo Page: http://global.canon/en/ad/cmsc/index.html

CrystalDisklnfo
Direct: https://crystalmark.info/en/ (1 click to download page, ok)
SUmo Page: https://crystalmark.info/en/ (1 click to download page, ok)

Dr. Hardware Sysinfo Peter A. Gebhard Softwareentwicklung
Directs to Google: Did you mean Dr. Hardware Sysinfo Peter A. Gebhardt Softwareentwicklung?

Garmin Express
Direct: http://www.garmin.com/de-DE/
SUmo Page: http://www.garmin.com/de-DE/

And so on. This is no great help for me. Did I do or understand anything wrong? Please consider I am a SUMo newbie.

Thank you in advance,

Anselm

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

First of all, "Direct" link is for SUMo PRO users only, but I assume you are using SUMo PRO (and thank you for that :) )
In the past, Direct mode allowed to directly go to the developper's site (www.adobe.com) rather than the SUMo page with Google search.
Now, we're in the process of adding direct link to the download pages of your favorite products. This is a rather long but ongoing process.

Should you notice some products for which you'd suggest better direct links, please post on this forum and i'll have this implemented asap.

I wasn't able to search in the forum for this subject of your last sentence nor did I find such posts in the forum. Under which subjects do I find these posts of proposals in the forum?

Furthermore it depends on the structure of the publishers web site if this is feasible in a generic manner. For example for the tool PDF24 Creator, the web site is language dependant using different URLs and language specific subdomain. I'm comfortable with English although I'm not a native speaker. And I don't know if this tool comes with all localizations included or only that one of the language of the subdomain. For another tool, SUMo has a link to a global web site. When I lookup the URL, it uses English path under the top level URL. When I click on the URL, I realize that this English web site section doesn't exist any longer but instead is redirected to Taiwanese Chinese. I couldn't find the claimed update as I can't read Chinese in no variant. It was possible to enter a search query. But this didn't help me as the result was also a Chinese answer list although my query was in English.

As already written, I didn't find such posts in the forum. And I could find a corresponding link on SUMo server only for those tools where you didn't have a link at all and provided a Google search instead in order to send you an email with proposed link. So I did a few times recently although that proposal link didn't work for me as webmail user.
