Java QuickStarter SUMo Error?

Post by bobprimak » Wed Jan 25, 2012 4:02 am

Java QuickStarter 10.2.1

This component is integral to Java JRE. Until a new update is issued, Java QuickStarter cannot be downloaded separately from JRE 7, which is still at Update 2, and has no Java QuickStarter update available.

It looks like the detection occurred only in a laptop with Firefox installed. I'll post back when I go into that computer again.

This is the KC Softwares site link claiming that Java Quick Starter is available as a download. But read this page from Oracle:
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/te ... s/jqs.html
Oracle lists QuickStarter as a Windows Service, and does not offer it as a separate download. The Service does update itself for Firefox as a plugin, on systems (usually Windows XP or earlier) on which Firefox is installed. So, while Java JRE updates Quick Starter, Quick Starter is not available as a separate download, and should not be installed separately from a normal JRE update.

My own JRE for both of my laptops is the latest available, which is JRE 7, Update 2. No more recent updates seem to be available, although I do check with Oracle from time to time. For SUMo to track an embedded plugin or embedded service separately from the Runtimes themselves seems to me to be confusing and not very productive.
